The rise of a charitable Christmas
Christmas time is well and truly upon us and we are all out there fighting the crowds to buy the perfect present for our parents, siblings, partners, friends, relatives, pets, relative’s pets and pet’s relatives. It can be maddening, not to mention expensive, to buy all these gifts and often we just end up buying those nicely packaged soap/chocolate/cosmetic gift packs just because it’s easy.
Recently though I have noticed the more savvy and thoughtful people among us are taking advantage of this rush, and are harnessing this power for ultimate good. To name names I am referring to the Help-Portrait movement, and the Bush Heritage Tribute Giving project. Groups that hope to have a positive impact on people and the environment this Christmas.
I know this type of thing isn’t exactly new. K-Mart has been accepting gifts donated by the public to under privileged people for years. It’s a fantastic scheme and makes a real difference to the people it reaches. What sets Help-Portrait and Bush Heritage apart is how ambitious and far reaching they are trying to be. Who knows, they might just pull it off.
